Zinc die casting alloys
- Zamak 2, also known as Kirksite, stands out among Zamak alloys as the only one suitable for gravity casting. It boasts the highest hardness and strength within the group, making it an excellent choice for bearings that can eliminate the need for wear inserts in zinc castings.
- Zamak 3 is the most widely used zinc die casting alloy, offering a well-balanced mix of mechanical and physical properties, long-term dimensional stability, and excellent casting quality.
- Zamak 5 contains a higher copper content than Zamak 3, which gives it greater strength but reduces its ductility. It is easier to finish, plate, and machine than Zamak 3, and is the most commonly used zinc die casting alloy in Europe.
- ZA8 is a zinc-aluminum alloy prized for its superior plating and finishing characteristics, making it ideal for decorative applications. With 8.4% aluminum, it is the only ZA alloy suitable for die casting.
